The Bulls struggled in qualifying in Imola, with Marcel starting in P12 and Frede in P15. The Bulls had very different experiences in the 22-lap race though, however.
Frede began in P15 on medium tyres and managed to get up on position by the end of the first lap. He stayed there until the cars around him started pitting eventually moving up to P2 at one point.
On lap 12 Frede dived into the pits and returned to the track in P16 on a set of softs, but the ever-confident Dane, battled his way past the other back markers and saw him catch up to the front where he crossed the finish line in P4. However, the two drivers in front of Frede had collected time penalties, so the Bull collected another podium, finishing in P2. The Mercedes driver Jarno Opmeer took the win, with AlphaTauri’s Joni Tömälä in P3.
Ferrari Driver David Tonizza, crossed the line first, was given a time penalty during the race, but it was later rescinded, pushing Frede to P3 and dropping Joni off the podium

Marcel, had a similar strategy to Frede and was charging up the pack, he had just got in front of Matthijs van Ervan’s Hass to take P9 and was hunting down the Williams of Alvaro Carreton, when the three collided, putting them to the back of the race. Van Ervan and Carreton pitted straight away and Marcel stayed out, but the damage was too great and on lap 18, Marcel hit the pits, he returned to the track, but had to settle for a P20 finish.
Sister team AlphaTauri saw Joni not only collect his first podium of the season, but he was voted driver of the day as well. His teammate, Dario Iemmulo was making his debut for the team, finished in P13.

It looked like it might be another tough Qualifying session for Marcel, who scraped through Q1 in P15, but bounced back in Q2 and qualified for the start in P5. Frede on the other hand, powered through the entire session to take pole for the race in Mexico.
The Dane didn’t get off to a great start as he headed down to the first turn, Mercedes driver Jarno Opmeer and McLaren’s Bari Boroumand were able to get in front of the Bull.
Those three were the only drivers to start on soft tyres and they started to pull away from the chasing pack.
Opmeer and Boroumand pulled the trigger first, entering the pits, pushing Frede up to P1. Two laps later, Frede entered the pits for his set of mediums, when he came out, he was in P6.

After everyone else had swapped their tyres, Frede was back into P3 chasing the other two. As the remaining laps counted down, Frede was able to get ahead of Boroumand and then began the chase to Opmeer, he got in front of his rival on the penultimate lap, but was unable to stay there and a few corners later on the final lap, Opmeer took the lead again. Frede was unable to fight back and had to settle for his fourth P2 in five races. Opmeer took the win and Boroumand finished out the podium. After the race, however, Frede was seen to have left the track and gained an advantage, which saw him given a time penalty and pushed him down to third.
Marcel battled hard at the Mexican track but was unable to make any advances on the timesheet, he fought well and took on both the Aston Martin of Lucas Blakeley and the Alpine’s Nicolas Longuet, but he was unable to fight them off for the entire race and finished in P7.
AlphaTauri driver Joni Tömälä finish in P9 and his teammate, Sebastian Job returning to the track, finished just behind in P10.

The F1 Esports Pro Championship saved the best to last with one of the most thrilling races in the sport’s history.
For Frede to take the Drivers’ Championship he needed to win the race and for Jarno Opmeer to finish P8 or below. It wasn’t looking good for the Bull, who qualified in P10, but the Danish driver’s ‘never say die’ attitude shone through.
Frede began his race on medium tyres and was instantly up to P9 at the start where he stayed until other drivers around him pitted for softs. Frede eventually moved up to P1 and went long on his medium tyres before hitting the pits on lap 15 of the 25-lap race.
He left the pits in P13 and started making progress, but there was a huge battle happening in front of Frede. He managed to avoid all the drama around him to get ahead of Opmeer, who was in P6 and then up to P2 with just five laps remaining. Aston Martin’s Lucas Blakeley was two seconds ahead of Frede in the lead, but the Bull charged and had halved that time in just two laps. Frede was in the DRS zone and as they came along the start/finish straight before the final lap Frede made his move on Blakeley and took the lead. Unable to retaliate, Frede took the chequered flag with Blakeley in P2 and Sebastian Job driving for AlphaTauri took P3 and his first podium in the series.

Marcel battled hard to support Frede in his title push, leading from the front to help his teammate surge forward. The German Bull qualified in P2, just behind Alpine’s Nicolas Longuet. The pair fought for the early stages of the race and both hit the pits on lap nine. Marcel putting on softs and Longuet mediums.
The battle continued after the stop and as others pitted around them the pair found themselves in a three-way battle with Blakely. On lap 19, Longuet went wide pushing Marcel off the track, he re-joined but had dropped to P6. Marcel was fighting back, but on the last lap he tangled with other cars and dropped even further down to P11. He clawed back two places but had to settle for P9. The other AlphaTauri of Joni Tömälä crossed the line in P14.
Due to Opmeer finishing in P4, Frede had to settle for P2 in the Drivers’ Champions – again – missing out on the title by just eight points. Marcel finished seventh in the standings with.
The Bulls were unable to retain their title this year and lost out to Mercedes, who finished the Team Championship with 295 points, whilst Red Bull Racing Esports finished in P2 with behind with 258 points, 37 points behind.
What Was Said
Frede Rasmussen: "Without Marcel, I wouldn't have won today. He did an amazing job and I am so proud to call him my teammate. We worked so hard all season but unfortunately did not achieve our goals. We will be back next year and we will be stronger than ever."
Marcel Kiefer: "It wasn't the best event for me but today I embraced my inner Checo to help Frede as much as possible to win the drivers' title. I think Brazil was great in terms of helping him, he won and we did our job but it wasn't enough. We will be coming for both titles next year. We fought right to the end, next season we will show how much we have learned and we will fix our mistakes in qualifying and strategy. We charge on."
